RS Ratings & Rankings

How percentile rankings turn relative strength into a single number from 1 to 99, what real rankings looked like in September 2026, and how to use rankings without being fooled by them.

From a line to a number

An RS line tells you about one stock. A ranking lets you compare a whole market at once. The usual method measures each stock’s price performance over a period, often the past 6 or 12 months, then ranks every stock from weakest to strongest and converts the result to a percentile from 1 to 99.

A rank of 90 means the stock outperformed about 90% of the stocks in the group. A rank of 40 means it outperformed only about 40%. Some ranking systems give extra weight to the most recent quarter so the number reacts faster.

A percentile ranking: 90 means the stock beat about 90% of the group.
