Reading 13F Filings
Form 13F shows the U.S. stock holdings of large investment managers at the end of each quarter. Here is who files, what the form includes and leaves out, and how to read one.
Who files and when
Investment managers with at least $100 million in qualifying U.S.-listed securities must file Form 13F with the SEC within 45 days after each quarter ends. That means holdings as of June 30 appear by mid-August, and holdings as of Sept. 30 by mid-November. Filings are free to search on the SEC’s EDGAR website.
